B had her heart ripped out. She died, so why is she thinking, speaking and trapped in a cell? B is a revitalised, a zombie with a conscious. Normal glassy-eyed, mindless zombies are called "revived". So what makes B so special? No clue but she is underground and being tested by humans as well as other zom heads (thinking zombies) her age. B's toenails and fingernails are bony, sharp weapons and her teeth will grow if not filed everyday. She hangs out with the zom heads getting to know them but when she has to go and fight reviveds with her group, she sees they are all one experiment; an experiment she doesn't want to be apart of. B is trying to redeem her racist life; fight for what is right. This is a pretty hard thing to accomplish when B is told to go along with the experiments or become a mindless zombie.
I liked that B was trying to change herself, to stick up for the underdog or those who were different, but this still didn't make up for the fact of the weird racism in the first book. I get that it was to be a reason for why B did things but it was just so weird to read something like that. I'm glad it was not used in this portion of the series. It was mentioned that B was trying to make up for her past life and that racism caused her death and she was looking for redemption. I felt for B. It makes a good story when you feel sorry for a zombie.
I enjoyed some of the graphic writing like the one scene where an eye poking happens. It was really gnarly. I was freaked out every time this creepy clown man was described and showed up. Clowns + zombie = really f@*ked up crap breaking lose.
