SFX make-up for the undead

Zombie Princess
I enjoy a great special effects artist and I am loving seeing some random ones popping up on all kinds of social media. Anything gory, macabre, or "freaky" and I'm on it like zombies to a brain. ;)

HanneHurskainen is from Finland and a beauty. While she hasn't dabbled in SFX long from what I see on DeviantArt, I still think she kicked ass on this lumpy zombie vixen.

Pop Art Zombie

Natalie Kirk which can be found on Facebook, Twitter , and where I found her, Instagram, is self-taught SFX make-up artist and body painter. Her work is very Tim Burtonesque (she even features some of his stuff) and clearly enjoys the supernatural/horror genre.   Seen on the left is what I first found of hers. I love Pop Art anything, but love it more with zombie shit. Of course. See below for a few more zombie paint jobs and really go and check out her work.

Not quite zombie but I just really like it!

iZombie recap: Liv and Let Clive

The Crime:
John Doe aka Sammy Wong, with missing fingers and molars and appears to be from a gang, is from Clive's days in vice squad. Clive becomes real upset and adamant about Liv staying out of helping on this case. The vision she has Clive looking a little like a dirty cop. Turns out Clive was suspended and this has Liv even more freaked. Clive comes to see Liv and lets her know Wong was in witness protection. Sammy had testified against AJ's father in a case which is why Sammy may have been beaten when he came back for a funeral. Ray, who was one of the gang members and a "snitch", turns out to be Clive's old cop buddy. Ray is safe and AJ is arrested for Sammy's murder after he attacks Liv in her home.

Zowers (Zombie Powers):
  • Anxious and fearful aka paranoia
  • Kung Fu

Major news: We get to see Major SHIRTLESS!! Seems like he can't get a great roommate and Liv feels bad since she was to be helping out....buuuuut....in walks a chick in Major's shirt. Oops. Major's new gf, Corin,  and ex get the awkward introduction. Liv gets super jelly and sets up Major and Ravi to meet about being roommates without them knowing. And they BOND! And become flatmates.
Eddie and Jerome now missing..We know who took them Major.

Meanwhile...:
Blaine and Jackie are shacking up. Guess she gives him money, he gives her brains. Sex: Bonus. Also, getting some aesthetician work done is helping Blaine look a little less freaky. And it seems Blaine has made some minions to go and fetch more brains. And the dudes are super brainless in more than one way. They appear to be getting annoyed with being Blaine's work and try to take Blaine's clients/victims for themselves. Blaine finds out and pops them.
We get to see Li'v bro, Evan, again! Seems he is staying at Liv's for awhile and he likes going through Peyton's things.

Nourishment:
Kale and brain smoothie
Rice and Sriracha (Asian meal to go with Asian brain)
Brazed cerebellum ala granola??
Medulla oblongata in a fradiago sauce (These names are killing me)

Brainy lines

  • "Sadly our latest John Doe here won't be handling much of anything"  *insert missing fingers*
  • Liv muttering slut after mocking Corin for helping Major pay the rent.
  • Tag saying: Martial Arts and Craft

Thoughts

  • Liv being like totally like a valley, "slutty" girl while like talking in the video store was like so hilarious.
  • Blaine has a freezer full of frozen zombies. Lovely.

YouTubers you should follow

WARNING: LONG POST
Now I may follow and subscribe to many YouTubers but the best ones that I go back to based on their zombieness are two lovely ladies that take major pride at being totally weird, gory, and being beautiful doing so (both inside and out).

Madeyewlook became a fav of mine last summer and I have been a dedicated Lexbot since. Lex, a 21 y.o. licensed esthetician and self-taught make-up artist, likes to rock some nerdy and scary looks, showcasing the oddball she is and her creativity has blossomed more and more. Lex does not shy away from zombies either which is how I found her and one of the reason I come back to watch.

She has done:

  • the walking dead valentine

  • Christmas zombie
  • bug zombie
  • bite mark special FX
  • AHS Tate Makeup/Zombie Boy
AND
  • a zombie sock

Lex has all kinds of tutorials for everyone that it is no surprise she has over 1 million followers. Take a look at one of her most resent posts. Follow her on basically all social media.

Mykie of Glam&Gore is also that mix of creepy beautiful that I cannot get enough of. Also she is cute and whacko! Love it! Mykie says:
"The swiss army knife of makeup tutorials. Beauty. Special Effects. Avant garde. Industry advice. Products. Foundational teaching. There is something here for everyone, and if you hate makeup, I invite you to at least laugh at my strange face."
I started following Mykie last summer as well and she is relatively new but making waves in the industry and her videos are something different.
Both Mykie and Lex have awesome personalities and have a sense a humor, key to being likable in my books.  Mykie and Lew original and willing to inspire their looks for others. I enjoy Mykie a lot since she can take anything pretty and turn it into gore. Some of her zombie looks, which can all be found on her account, are:

  • Pop Art Zombaes
  • Lana Del Rey   (So entertaining)
  • Speak No Evil

  •  And my fav 2 things combined....

I highly suggest looking at both ladies works and following them. Their week to week updates will always give you a smile!

DIY missing eye: a crappy DIY

This is how "real" DIY zombie make-up is done:
1. Create a patch....with what??? My fellow Captain Hook friend?
2. Crying face...??? (why is this needed)
3. Attachment....with some kind of glue
4. This is what it.....what? Looks like? Smells like?

5. Hide those edges!
6. Irritate your eye. I'm guessing with make-up and not chemicals.

7. Pure gore.  Thanks for skipping where this blood and gore came from.
8. DONE!

Well thanks little zombie girl for showing us something cool and yet not showing us at all how to do it.

Zombie Experiment creeps New Yorkers out

Some geniuses made up some zombies and let them loose in NYC to see what would happen. Looks like only a few shat themselves. I enjoyed the normalness,  everyday zombie just going about their thing but still creeping people out. Good job!

Zombie Wonder Woman

Guess Wonder Woman isn't that Wonder(ful) after all. Zombies got her and looks like they took her clothes. Really folks! Look closely. That is painted on I am sure. She has more than a little paint on her nip nip there. Glad to see that she still looks good dead! I am guessing healing abilities don't work once you become dead, hey there WW? Also, this proves you are not immortal. HA HA!

Warm Bodies make-up

Katie Alves , from DeviantArt, creates beautiful make-up art. When Warm Bodies was coming out, she made this.

"I went to go see Warm Bodies the day it came out. I loved it! Thought I'd do a Warm Bodies inspired makeup look. This can also be used for a Valentines look."

We love it Katie! Keep it up.

How to Be a Zombie

How to Be a Zombie: The Essential Guide for Anyone Who Craves Brains (How to Be a Monster)

by
This book has those answers.

* identify your zombie type

* alternative foods
* learn how to "pass" among the living
* explore zombies in pop culture

Now I have read another type of human eater book called "How To Be A Vampire" and this is presented in the exact same way. It was nice to have an explanation of different types of zombies and where they came from. Examples are rage zombies and voodoo zombies. Most of the book explained the changes of being a zombie and how to cope. What I liked best were the pages that showed how to apply zombie make-up and wounds, foods like graveyard cakes and bloody-eyeball punch to have at parties, and movies, books and games that a zombie (or fan) would enjoy. Overall the book was "meh". I got bored with it a lot and that's why it took a while to get through even though it is a short and quick read.

Audrey Zepburn

I love Audrey Hepburn. Such an iconic woman. I know nothing about her besides her being an actress and being black and white and I think she ate breakfast at Tiffany's?? Anyways,  I just adore her style and class. And who could forget this classic image.
http://the100.ru/images/actors/id349/1725-AUDREY_HEPBURN23.jpg
That is right. NO ONE. Now some woman has gone and zombified herself to pull off the famous Audrey look.

Pretty great. Click HERE to see more images and a video on how this shitznit was created. I am fascinated with make-up art. So amazeballs.

Paintballing with zombies

http://www.vancitybuzz.com/image.php?src=http://www.vancitybuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/zombie-combat-zone.jpg&w=650&a=t
Ron McCall, a former props maker for horror movies, opened Zombie Combat Zone, a nighttime zombie apocalypse themed paintball fight in Surrey, B.C. That is in Ca-Na-Da.  Rounds run from dusk till 1AM, shooting groups of actors dressed as zombies, as well as a secondary objective of "locating the source of the infection." Sounds intimate.

Watch a video HERE. "Thrills in the woods"? I don't know about Peter Mansbridge, but I can find other ways to get thrilled that don't involve getting shot with paint.

how long does that take to put on in the morning?

Wicked! Look at that make-up job! I am pretty much jelly over this artwork. If I was to dress up like a zombie, I'd want whom ever did this nice piece to work their magic on me. And that would be a lot of magic.

SO pretty

Katie Alves, a make-up artist I follow on Deviant Art and who also has this blog featured a chick Sarah Chambers who did the below stunning zombie shoe inspired make-up. I love how strange and beautiful it looks. Also, really want those shoes. I have showcased them before. I just can't afford them :(. WAH!
