PPZ gets serious with a trailer

Finally after 6 years of talking, going through directors and cast, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is coming to theater in 2016.
From the trailer we can see they have gotten a bit too serious about being badass respectable young women with killing zombie skills. The novel was always a little bit comical feeling and it has not translated onto screen that way, atleast just from seeing the trailer. The gore as stepped up and is paired with the darkness of plague and unbathed middle class white folk just like the book. I do look forward to seeing some actors in there like
Lena Headey and Lily James.

Fear the Walking Dead

First off I want to admit something that fellow zombie lovers would shame me for.... I didn't even know this show was coming on until a week before. GASP I know....It might have been I have no cable, I don't follow the right things on FB, Instagram, or Twitter (I hardly peruse it anymore), or maybe I was focused on my dog a lot this summer. Either way, I am sorry.

Now that I have shamed myself let's hop to a quick review of the show!

If you haven't seen it yet (second episode was last night) then watch a trailer for the show below.

The show focuses on what happened before Rick and his gang got shit on all the time, before all our favorite and loved characters were eaten. This series is the prequel, the when, how and maybe why The Walking Dead world we know is like it is.

Travis Manawa and Madison Clark as their characters on FTWD
As you are watching the first episode you may recognize a few folks from some great other shows. I noticed a few myself. Kim Dickens, plays Madison Clark, is known for Gone Girl, The Blind Side, and a few shows she was one for a bit were House of Cards and Sons of Anarchy. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Dickens' daughter Alicia is none other than Lexa from The 100.

Lexa from The 100

Elizabeth Rodriguez, who I love in OTNB as Aleida Diaz, made a short appearance in the first episode but will be a huge role as Dickens' boyfriend/husband's(?) ex-wife, Liza Ortiz.

So the pilot introduces us to this family and extended family, to their jobs and school where multiple people are "out with the flu"  but focuses on Dickens' son Nick (played by Frank Dillane) being a druggie who witnesses some freaking ass face eating done by his girlfriend in the tweeker church they are bunking in. After being hit by a car his family is trying to understand what he saw but unfortunately a drugged out person doesn't have the best experience with telling the truth or being trustful. So when Nick manages to get out of the hospital and his folks have looked into his story, we learn Nick's family is full of a bunch of assholes for not believing him. Even a news story goes viral showing a man attacking first
responders, getting shot a butt ton, and
only succumbing to a head shot. Without giving away the pilot's ending, Nick's family finally believes something is going on with people after they witness someone being ran over MULTIPLE times. This last scene is what makes you shit your pants cause we all know from watching TWD that it all goes down hill from here.

The whole episode was was just anticipating the zombies to come, for someone to realize that person ain't dead; they undead. You are on your seat's edge already hoping this family doesn't get hurt. I thought for sure the old man in the hospital was going to be where we discover this but they got me with someone else. The show still feels like TWD but so far with less gross zombies and more clean people.
If you are a Walking Dead fan, then you MUST see this show. I will be continuing on this dead path.

Burying the Ex trailer

This is the year for some funny zombie movies. Cooties is just too far away so to hold us over we have Burying the Ex featuring Anton Yelchin, the cutie from Star Trek, Ashley Greene (Twilight which I hate to admit that I have seen), and Alexandra Daddario which has been in Percy Jackson series.
Kind of like the 1993 My Boyfriend's Back but sex role reversal with a twist, guy's girlfriend dies after he regrets them moving in together. Relieved after she is gone but before he managed to break it off, she back as a zombie. Psycho ex-girlfriends are bad but a undead one is just plain fucking crazy.

YouTubers you should follow

WARNING: LONG POST
Now I may follow and subscribe to many YouTubers but the best ones that I go back to based on their zombieness are two lovely ladies that take major pride at being totally weird, gory, and being beautiful doing so (both inside and out).

Madeyewlook became a fav of mine last summer and I have been a dedicated Lexbot since. Lex, a 21 y.o. licensed esthetician and self-taught make-up artist, likes to rock some nerdy and scary looks, showcasing the oddball she is and her creativity has blossomed more and more. Lex does not shy away from zombies either which is how I found her and one of the reason I come back to watch.

She has done:

  • the walking dead valentine

  • Christmas zombie
  • bug zombie
  • bite mark special FX
  • AHS Tate Makeup/Zombie Boy
AND
  • a zombie sock

Lex has all kinds of tutorials for everyone that it is no surprise she has over 1 million followers. Take a look at one of her most resent posts. Follow her on basically all social media.

Mykie of Glam&Gore is also that mix of creepy beautiful that I cannot get enough of. Also she is cute and whacko! Love it! Mykie says:
"The swiss army knife of makeup tutorials. Beauty. Special Effects. Avant garde. Industry advice. Products. Foundational teaching. There is something here for everyone, and if you hate makeup, I invite you to at least laugh at my strange face."
I started following Mykie last summer as well and she is relatively new but making waves in the industry and her videos are something different.
Both Mykie and Lex have awesome personalities and have a sense a humor, key to being likable in my books.  Mykie and Lew original and willing to inspire their looks for others. I enjoy Mykie a lot since she can take anything pretty and turn it into gore. Some of her zombie looks, which can all be found on her account, are:

  • Pop Art Zombaes
  • Lana Del Rey   (So entertaining)
  • Speak No Evil

  •  And my fav 2 things combined....

I highly suggest looking at both ladies works and following them. Their week to week updates will always give you a smile!

TWD Season 5 Finale

I hope everyone is well and almost celebratory after last night's The Walking Dead. Please if you have not seen the show, DO NOT READ! SPOILERS! You have been warned.

I was so glad not to see any of our beloved group suffer more loss. I think I'm still getting over Noah.
In 90 minutes of a finale, we see a beat-down with Glenn and Nicholas, Sasha and Gabriel get some inner peace, Daryl and Aaron get trapped and then saved, wolves are out hunting, and I think Deanna has a change in mind about Rick. Everyone happy with the finale? I know I am! Good-bye Porch Dick! (see funny Ballad of Porch Dick here)
Also, I think the episode should have been called "Saved" instead of "Conquer". I'll show you why.

  • Glenn gets lured by that idiot Nicholas, even gets shot and have a huge brawl, yet great Glenn decides to keep Nic alive, saving him from being a dick I guess.
  • After Rick's beat down with Pete, Carol lets Pete know he has a choice to make: live or be an idiot. Seems like he chose to be psycho cuz just as Rick comes in after saving the whole incompetent town from Gabriel's messed up death wish and walkers roaming in the backyards, Rick has to go ahead and save the town from Pete. Pete went irrational, cuts Reg's throat, causing everyone to see what a dick he really is. Deanna gives the go ahead. YAY RICK! Back in charge.

  • Although not everyone was saved from death in this episode (RIP Reg and I guess to Pete), others seemed to be save in other ways. Sasha wants some help and clearly getting some rest with some zombies didn't help. Sasha goes to Gabriel, who doesn't know whether to die or live, seeking to be guided. Father Gab and Sasha rumble and tumble and of course the old pastor's daughter comes and saves the day.

  • Daryl and Aaron are on a mission to get some red poncho guy and get caught in a trap. Who comes along and saves them but.....MORGAN!!!

Guys! Morgan was there from the beginning and we have seen him sneaking around and following something and finally we see him kicking ass and being completely zen about it. He just wants to find Rick you guys! And he does. The finale ends with their weird reunion after Rick has just put Pete down.

What do you think Season 6 is going to be like? OH HUGE question: WHO THE HELL ARE THESE WOLVES DUDES?! Are they cutting the Ws in their flock? I was still confused by that whole thing.

Other questions: Glenn going to be friends with Nic? What kind of catch up are Morgan and Rick going to have? Will Jessie ever sleep with Rick after his quick shooting to her abusive husband? SCarol going to be around still? Carl going to get to first base?! SO many legit answers that we need.  Till next season...

iZombie Pilot

So Tuesday we got to see creator Rob Thomas take our iZombie comic a TV show. What were your thoughts?
Mine? I enjoyed it overall but let me get into that some more.

While I did only in the last year read the comic books and couldn't stop reading them, I wasn't a fan that had been with them "from the beginning" so I feel a little less invested and emotionally attached.

First off what is completely ridiculous is changing Gwen's name to Olivia 'Liv' Moore.. Read that again...*sigh*

Vol 1
Liv's life changes all in one night on a boat where some how a drug named Utopia causes some people to become zombies and Liv manages to get a scratch and wakes up on the beach in a body bag. Her life as being a doctor and having a great looking fiancé are gone forever.

Now Liv works in a morgue with a British doc who I find a little too hyper. He is totally unfazed by Liv's brain eating and she is exposed all in one episode. Wish that could have atleast been the second one but let's just DIVE right in. Soon Liv is relishing her zombie powers she has like receiving memories of those brains she has eaten and BAM! a murder needs to be solved.

iZombie statue

And...it gets solved with her visions she has on the side arm of the newly hired detective that calmly just lets her use her "psychic powers". Of course there is some gun fire and almost some live brain eating, but the plot moved real fast. Also her make-up bothered me a lot. Too dark? Or just a little off. I don't know. Glad she kept the white hair.

Great things that I did like about this show that I will continue to watch because I mean, it WAS actually good besides being a little/a lot different than the comics.

  • Beginning credits were very comic like. Loved the homage to them.

  • Mr. Frost, one of the suspects or questioners, was totally Cliff from Veronica Mars
  • Extra "powers" was a nice touch. Liv not only receives the memories but the ability to speak the owner's language and habits like being a klepto
  • Great use of comic book narrative captions
  • Great humor and quirkiness like that seen in Veronica Mars

From Deviant Art

So fans of the comic book may have been shouting at the screen the other night but we can't deny that it was still a fun show to watch and I am hooked to see what Mr. Thomas will be giving us.

Will you continue?

Don't have a Zombie Man: Zombie Simpsons

I play lame little games on my tablet everyday and one that I keep up with is The Simpsons: Tapped Out. I grew up with watching them, quoting Bart, and even through out my life someone can always bring something back to this ever running show.
The Simpsons is one show that does a really great job at Halloween episodes. Treehouse Horror has even showcased an episode with zombies in 1992 named "Dial Z for Zombies". Man I was in kindergarten then! This show is old! So it is no wonder DeviantArt danosborne has created some wicked zombie Simpson art.

I am digging the detailed hairiness of Otto here to the left. Feel Otto just kinda is a zombie with him being all mellow most of the time.

Zombie cat is real!!

So the story of Zombie Cat has been circling the web this week. Bart, the cat who came back, had been ran over by a car and then buried by his owner who had found Bart lifeless. Five days later the neighbour saw Bart looking for food and put both the neighbour and owner into shock. It seems cats have nines lives after all. This gives us hope for everyone.
The Humane Society has taken on the medical expenses for this undead cat.

Bart will survive and have a great recovery, only without an eye and some scarring. Who will need another eye for brain eating anyways? :)
Great resemblance hey?

Boxing Day Learning

Z is for Zombie.
Z is also for ZOINKS! I am on holidays!

I'm too lazy and enjoying the in-laws free food to write anything remotely intelligent....which isn't any different any other time, am I right?? haha.

Hope your Boxing Day is zombie free!

Bored? Hate the holidays? Watch this Zombie Christmas song video below.

Life After Beth

Let's take a zombie Aubrey Plaza + other hilarious actors = Life After Beth. A zombie comedy folks! No longer are zombies subjected to being scary and nightmare fuel. Now they fall in love (Warm Bodies), they run armies (Game of Thrones), and now they get second chances with their boyfriends!

In this film, an emotionally wrecked teen is heartbroken when Beth (Aubrey Plaza) dies and comes back as a zombie. Now Zach can get to tell her all the cutesie-wootsie  things he wanted to say and maybe have to put her down like Lassie. I don't know. She just seems to be a little psycho later in the trailer. "Here son! Beth is back! Now kill her."

Expected to be released August 15, 2014.

The Walking Dead game

Miss The Walking Dead? Me too. *le sad* Read all the comics? Want something else to do? Enjoy video games? Me too! Play this game or replay for those in a zombie fix.

Now while I never really played The Walking Dead game (too scared to play zombie games), I watched the first TellTale game of The Walking Dead over the shoulder of a pillow while my fiance played and made all the opposite choices I suggested. Don't know the game that well? Here is a rundown of the first episode.

So basically you have a limited time to choose important decisions on top of having to keep safe and the people around you. While some choices you think are simple actually impact what you do later. "Joe will remember that" feels like an ominous feeling you keep with you throughout the whole game. I know one of the first choices is to save a kid or a guy. If you don't choose either in the "invisible time", bad shit will happen. To make you feel even worse after playing the episode, it ranks a percentage of what you chose to all the other players. I would have been that person that got all the lower percentages. I would choose all the violent and crappy choices unlike my fiance who manages to go with the more compassionate side.
With 5 episodes to play, what can be better than being graded on your choices and feeling miserable, not only about the sad plot line, but the consequences of a fictional character dealing with fictional zombies?? Maybe eating Grandma's fresh baked cookies? It's a toss up.

Zombie Awareness Month: Are you prepared?

So the zombies have come. You know what a zombie looks like, smells like, how to destroy one, and the best weapons out there. What else do you need to know? LOTS! There is so much to learn that you might need to spend weeks or months learning to be the best survivor out there. Me? I'm just going to let it happen and join the zombie horde. I'm lazy.

Did you know there are different types of zombies? There are! Depending on which apocalypse we get will depend on which zombies we get. If it is a virus with erratic tendencies then we get our runners. The scariest I must say. If it spreads slowly we get our slow walkers and shamblers or the most general zombies. These are easier to kill. Let's hope for the latter.

The best survival tips you can learn are to get a pack. People tend to survive longer with more people. Now some groups are a-holes and may want to stab you for food and ammo, but find a great group and survive together. It is best to have a skill that is worth keeping you around for. Less likely to be turned.
Better to make friends with humans and not zombies. Never engage in talk with the dead even if they are your grandpa. Grandpa will bite you.

Stay active. Or in my case, get active NOW! Get out there and get some cardio. For a great list of simple yet effective rules for the zombie land watch the video below as well as the long list here.

Make sure you have lots of food to eat. Nothing worse than trying to find food and you end up being dinner. Stock up now. Canned food is cheap and easy to keep. Fill your pantries and invest in some dried food that astronauts eat. It is amazing how great that stuff will taste when you are starving. And when all the canned foo runs out, hunt. Which leads to learning to hunt and trap food. Scavenging should be used for desperation and a quick fix but it is not worth risking your life to wander into a zombie filled store.

I could write a whole month about the do's and don'ts. Visit the Zombie Research Society for all your survival needs.

Remember: always be prepared and show your support this month!

Zombie Make-Up Tutorial from Pintester!

Pintester and my fav YouTuber, Sonja Foust, did a DIY video back in October for Halloween. It involved TP, a hair dryer, and her famous swearing. Usually she does some drinking as well or setting things on fire in her other videos, "screwing up pins so we don't have to." Thanks! And if you are like WTF is Pinterest then you have been hiding under a rock and it better be a zombie apocalypse where you are. And here is how to blend in with those zombies.

FYI that is how my hair looks everyday.

Get Ripped!

Onnit is on it (get it) with these gruesome kettle bells. Great for making those biceps weapons of their own. Screw using a knife or gun, I'll use my massive muscles to kill zombies via face punches. I probably can't even lift the 18lb and for $43 I'm okay not to but I'd love to see a work out video with these bad boys in them.

WAIT! WHAT? There is a video?!

Well, mostly a promo, but you get how cool they are.

Organ Trail

Remember that game you just couldn't wait to play in computer class as a kid? The one where you always died of dysentery and never knew if you should caulk the wagon or take your chances at drowning? Or you didn't even know what caulk meant? Oregon Trail was a great Apple II game. And if you want to relive those great times with a bit more zombies included then play ORGAN TRAIL! I did and died instantly from low supplies.

This retro game lets you drive in your station wagon through the States where hordes of zombies, nature, and bandits are all a threat. You and four of your friends must survive them all. Will you die from dysentery, dehydration, low medical supplies, or one of your friends being infected? Available on Steam

While this isn't an official Barbie doll, it should be.

How cute was that orange axe? It's a girls' must have accessory of the year!

Zom-B

Zom-B (Zom-B #1)

B is a young teen in England. B's dad is a racist arsehole who beats up B and B's mom. B tends to act like a racist in hopes of not getting pounded but where does the act end and the real racism begin? And what is going on with these zombies everyone is seeing on YouTube? Real or not real? B will soon find out.

*Some spoilers* uuuuuggh....this book. Until 3/4 of the way through only 3 times were there mentions of zombies but it did explode with that at the end. I was really disgusted with the racist main character who gets beat up by the racist dad. B half jokes/acts because of the dad but it was still bothersome. Also, B turns out to be BECKY on page 196. WTF? They hid that on purpose. I went back to see any signs and there were only like 3 but it was WAY too hard to tell. B has buzzed hair and wears black shirt and jeans and hangs out with more guys. Plus the personality and vocabulary seemed dominantly male.
So I was confused about this Brian kid in the first chapter and the Owly Man that freakishly appears out of nowhere. Was Becky Brian before?? And what are with the mutant zombie things controlling the mindless ones? Yes there are zombies controlling other zombies! I was curious to read the second novel (stay tuned for that review) from all that and for the fact B gets her heart ripped out at the end by the Tyler kid she sacrificed due to the color of his skin. I hoped the racism was done with or made more sense as to why the author included such distasteful language. Let me give you a hint: it doesn't make sense why.
