Burying the Ex review

Back in June I posted about a new movie trailer called Burying the Ex. Well last night I finally watched it. Let's just say....this could have been worse.

The movie revolves around a horror fan and his overbearing girlfriend who dies and comes back as a zombie due to an evil wish to be together forever. In the film Anton Yelchin, also from Star Trek reboot movies as Chekov, tries to break up with his girlfriend, played Ashley Greene (Twilight series), but on the way over she is struck by a bus and killed. While Yelchin's character finally tries to go after a new girl, Alexandra Daddario, Greene comes back from the dead being her usual possessive self refusing to believe they aren't meant for eachother.
Yelchin as Chekov

Let me be honest here and say I had higher hopes when I saw the trailer versus seeing the film. While I did enjoy Greene's decaying and the one line in the film that had my LOL ("I'm shaving my taint"), the rest of the film was just meh. I don't know if it was the lines, the lack of music or something in the background, the awkwardness of Yelchin and Daddario getting together, or the lack of other support actors besides the half-brother but I felt like something was missing.

I watched Life After Beth, another zombie film not that many knew about, and I LOVED IT! It was funny, witty, just great. I was hoping this was be along those lines but this was awkward at times. AWKWARD=AWKWARD.

Anyways, using my new my review ratings (explained later on ths site) I give this one thumbs up...cuz I didn't completely hate it.

Life After Beth movie review

Back in July I posted about about the movie Life After Beth about a young lady (played by Aubrey Plaza) turning into a zombie and her bf Zach finding out which at first makes his broken heart mended until Aubrey starts acting a little cray cray. And she ain't the only one!
I saw this at a film festival in my city, preceded by a zombie walk, and although the crowd was small it was a fantastic experience and film to watch.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The zomromcom had some strange and hilarious moments in it like Beth getting tied to an oven and falling down the side of a hill, awkward moments you can't help but laugh at, the fact that dead people were coming back and trying to get back into their homes, John C Reilly and Molly Shannon as strange parents, and great dialogue like:

Zach Orfman: We're going to go for a hike.
Geenie Slocum: Not a hot idea.
Maury Slocum: In broad daylight? Zach, are you nuts?
Geenie Slocum: Wait till nightfall.
Beth Slocum: Why?
Maury Slocum: Because, baby, it's safer.
It was a little awkward and slow to start but as Beth starting becoming more and more extreme in her zombism and Zach getting more freaked out, the events turned out to be hilarious with a touch of romance but not enough that you wish you were dead. I loved the scene with the bros in their underwear and how Beth is put down. Most hilarious moment! I took my fiance to it and he enjoyed it just as much as I did. I really hope to see more and more of zomromcoms.

Although it was not a box office hit since it premiered at most film festivals, I'm giving Life After Beth a ZD rating of 4 out of 5 monkey brains.

SASKATCHEWAN CITY OVERRUN WITH ZOMBIES

On Saturday zombies roamed my city and attended weddings and scared any foreigners to never come to this city again. September 27 was the annual zombie walk and while it was cold, it didn't stop the zombies.
The zombies start coming from a gathering in the park, where they wandered mindlessly up the Broadway Bridge.
Here they tried to attack innocent and sexy on lookers like myself. This one thrashed at me. I even saw an elderly lady with a basket of fingers on her walker. Must have been snack time.
Some survivors made it and were fighting back with guns and grenades. It was great to feel like someone was doing their duty. (teehee)
Even poor children and dogs had been infected with the zombie virus. As cute as these things usually are, they were TERRIFYING!!

YXE Fantastic Film Festival was the lovely host of this night. Click above to see more zombie pics.

PPZ stil being made a film

Since 2009, a movie has been in the talk for the book of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith. A parody of the classic novel Pride and Prejudice features zombies and martial arts-skilled Bennet girls. (see my review here).

It seems the movie is still a go according to news. Filming starts this month (YAY) with Burr Steels, clearing a fan of Zac Efron, being the director.

"Lily James ("Downton Abbey") will play Elizabeth Bennet, Sam Riley ("Maleficent") will play Mr. Darcy, and Bella Heathcote ("Dark Shadows") will play another of the Bennet sisters."
I would rather it have been Natalie Portman (sha-wing), Emma Stone (BOING) and Lily Collins (*pant*) to play Elizabeth as all 3 were once in talk of playing the role. I don't know these actors enough. I don't trust them....BUT sometimes not being too familiar with someone's work means less expectations.

One of Seth's other books was brought to life on film in 2012:
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I was pumped to see it since I knew they would leave out all the details but it was just okay for me. And with a 6/10 on IMDB, it was pretty underwhelming. I like my zombies better so I hope this turns out to be a huge hit.

Will you go and see PPZ?

Life After Beth

Let's take a zombie Aubrey Plaza + other hilarious actors = Life After Beth. A zombie comedy folks! No longer are zombies subjected to being scary and nightmare fuel. Now they fall in love (Warm Bodies), they run armies (Game of Thrones), and now they get second chances with their boyfriends!

In this film, an emotionally wrecked teen is heartbroken when Beth (Aubrey Plaza) dies and comes back as a zombie. Now Zach can get to tell her all the cutesie-wootsie  things he wanted to say and maybe have to put her down like Lassie. I don't know. She just seems to be a little psycho later in the trailer. "Here son! Beth is back! Now kill her."

Expected to be released August 15, 2014.

Zombie Awareness Month: Are you prepared?

So the zombies have come. You know what a zombie looks like, smells like, how to destroy one, and the best weapons out there. What else do you need to know? LOTS! There is so much to learn that you might need to spend weeks or months learning to be the best survivor out there. Me? I'm just going to let it happen and join the zombie horde. I'm lazy.

Did you know there are different types of zombies? There are! Depending on which apocalypse we get will depend on which zombies we get. If it is a virus with erratic tendencies then we get our runners. The scariest I must say. If it spreads slowly we get our slow walkers and shamblers or the most general zombies. These are easier to kill. Let's hope for the latter.

The best survival tips you can learn are to get a pack. People tend to survive longer with more people. Now some groups are a-holes and may want to stab you for food and ammo, but find a great group and survive together. It is best to have a skill that is worth keeping you around for. Less likely to be turned.
Better to make friends with humans and not zombies. Never engage in talk with the dead even if they are your grandpa. Grandpa will bite you.

Stay active. Or in my case, get active NOW! Get out there and get some cardio. For a great list of simple yet effective rules for the zombie land watch the video below as well as the long list here.

Make sure you have lots of food to eat. Nothing worse than trying to find food and you end up being dinner. Stock up now. Canned food is cheap and easy to keep. Fill your pantries and invest in some dried food that astronauts eat. It is amazing how great that stuff will taste when you are starving. And when all the canned foo runs out, hunt. Which leads to learning to hunt and trap food. Scavenging should be used for desperation and a quick fix but it is not worth risking your life to wander into a zombie filled store.

I could write a whole month about the do's and don'ts. Visit the Zombie Research Society for all your survival needs.

Remember: always be prepared and show your support this month!

Zombie Awareness Month: Welcome to Zombie Town

May is Zombie Awareness Month. It is where nerds and enthusiasts, as well as true believers, talk about preparing for the looming apocalypse.  This whole month is a great way to become aware of the dangerous threat of flesh eating corpses we will have on our planet.
I'd still do him

A serious concern is turning hotties like my husband Jakey into a rotting hottie.
So the key thing we need to be aware this month is the most important of all: How to Spot a Zombie. While some may mistake a hobo or your drunken uncle as a mindless Walker, don't let that fool you. Just to be certain with no chance for mistaken identity, shoot them right in the brain.

If shooting is not a choice you have then another great method, but not always 100% effective, is fire. Fire is a great alternative if you suck at shooting. *cough* me *cough*

One should also consider what type of weapons to have for combat. If I was super strong and knew where to get a katana, that would be my choice. But let's see what would be the most effect for kills.

As we can see guns are the most effective. Now while this is true, they are also likely to run out of ammo so unless you are already stock piled or own a gun store OR you have the endless ammo cheat then you may reconsider relying solely on guns and have a back up weapon. What would be your weapon of choice? How would you prepare for the apocalypse?

Come back next week and I'll share more ways to prepare yourself.

Helping Your Children

Since it is Zombie Awareness month, it is best to make your kids aware and what better way to help them understand than by reading a book.

I so wish I could find this book somewhere or know if it was real or not. Whether or not, you can imagine some of the advice it has in it. This is what I think should be included:
Chapter 1: What are zombies?
Chapter 2: Why Daddy was shot
Chapter 3: Realizing Mommy is not a bitch
Chapter 4: How to use your Barbies and other toys to kill other Daddies and Mommies with
Chapter 5: Yes, your friends are all dead
Chapter 6: You will never get to play video games, go to dances, have prom, or a normal childhood

I imagine this to be like a little Jr. Non-fiction book. It'd be so helpful.

Top 5 Posts of 2013

This year Zombie Diaries has had more views than ever before. Since 2009 the blog has changed a lot from its content to the look to even the viewers. One thing that we can all agree on that has not changed is we love our zombies!
So what did we love the most in 2013? It seems cats, cartoons and animated shows, good ol' Saskatchewan (YAY), and naked super hero ladies. So a 30 something-year-old crazy cat Saskatchewan lesbian who enjoys cartoons seems to be my viewers. Love it!

Let's give those top 5 posts now!

#1 Zombie Cat: The Tale of a Decomposing Kitty

Isabel Atherton wrote a book about a rotting, horny cat who tries to find its way back home. Funny and gruesome. Great read!

DeviantArt member Cronobreaker
drew zombie food. Seems you all like rotten food.

In May, a camp near Regina, Saskatchewan, became a success as it taught people how to survive the wilderness and fight off zombies. Look forward to seeing what success they have in 2014.

She's naked! She's dead! She's the Wonder Woman of all your dreams.
There's some paint on your nip nip WW. Bet get that cleaned off.

SHMEOW-ZEOW! Undead Marceline created by ToxicZ0mbi3, a Deviant Art fan artist, made the cut of our list for its cuteness and algebraic drawing skills.

Hope you enjoyed loving the undead with Zombie Diaries in 2013, and may we enjoy this disgusting passion together in 2014!
