Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (PPZ) by Seth Grahame-Smith / Jane Austen
Jane Austen's classic story is transformed into a dangerous world of zombies instead of star-struck lovers. The Bennet sisters are trained zombie killers specializing in martial arts. Lady Catherine DeBourgh is a renowned zombie killer in England. And, Mr. Darcy's first marriage proposal starts a physical attack instead of a verbal one.
So, that is what it is about. This is how I felt about it.

EEEEEEEEEEE!!!! |
I was SO pumped after reading this book. Not only is there just zombies in it, but there is a love story and strong, ass-kicking women. I did want to punch Darcy and Elizabeth some times with their childish stubborn ways and not just giving into their love for one another. Too much pride...hence it is in the title. I do have to confess that I didn't read the original novel by Jane Austen. I don't think I ever will and here is why:
- it never sounded interesting until I saw a zombie mash-up
- even with the zombie mash-up there were some dry spots
- I'm not one for reading books that are set in the "olden days" UNLESS it has supernatural creatures in it
- Jane Austen. Seriously.
I am happy she wrote the book because I would have never got to experience PPZ. So thanks Jane!
This book happens to be the first book written of a trilogy but is the second book of that trilogy if that makes sense. I couldn't put this book down for long and was pumped to know I had more to read in this trilogy. Romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses just makes my day. My favorite part about this book is Charlotte, Elizabeth's friend who marries Mr. Collins. Charlotte marries Collins because she has discovered she has been bitten. Everyone seems to be oblivious to her sickness except Elizabeth. Elizabeth goes to visit her friend and finds her condition is rapidly changing and Charlotte is having troubles talking. This stricken chick babbles awh mah lawd instead of real words. It cracks me up! AND!!! At one point a pus bubble on her decomposing body pops while she is eating her bland soup and some blood trickles down into the soup. This makes Charlotte rapidly eat the soup. Guess the blood made it taste better! EEEW! OH! And if you think that is gross....there is a part about her going into a corner to defecate because she is losing her marbles and going all zombie.
I could probably rant on more and more what I enjoyed....

- Elizabeth rips out a ninja’s heart and bites into it.
- Mr Bennett and Mr Bingley spend a day trapping zombies with the use of cauliflower – which apparently look like brains.
- Darcy + totally beating up Wickham = AWESOME!
....but I should stop....no really....I should.

I was never particularly interested in the original, or even this mash-up, until you started raving about it. Your descriptions definitely help the sale! I love your monkey brain rating scale, too! haha
